This is real af. I think part of the problem is that Medium wants to brand itself as a platform that has insane profit potential for clients, and so that happens when there are publications that make a ton of money, thus bringing up the overall average of how much people made. It looks good to have the same people keep making a ton of money so that they’ll spread the word of how profitable the enterprise is when really, they’re favored by the system.
It’s discouraging because the funnel on the website is clogged. Many writers want to make it to that level where you’re on a 300k+ publication, and so everyone is writing the same type of stuff — You’ll Only be successful if/ If You Do This…”. It’s pretty unhealthy for creative enterprise.
